Can the school provide motorcycles?

Motorcycles are available at an additional charge. Motorcycle numbers are limited and are allocated on a "first come, first served" basis.

Note: Loan motorcycles are available for Novice and Basic Handling options only.

Can I use a motorcycle over 250CC?

No, unless you hold a current letter of exemption from the NZ Transport Agency.

What conditions apply during testing and/or training?

Students undertaking any of our testing and/or training do so at their own risk. Whilst we exercise every care, motorcycling is inherently risky. Students are required to sign an indemnity clause at the time of registration. It would be prudent to check with your insurance company as to what your policy covers if you are unsure. Stringent health and safety rules apply at all times.

Note: All privately provided motorcycles used during training/ testing must be in roadworthy condition. The Law does not allow you to use a class “N” moped to complete the Basic Handling Skills Test (BHST). A class “G” motorcycle, 250cc or less, is required for the Basic Handling Skills Test. Tip – conventional “sit upright” type motorcycles are better suited to the BHST especially the cone weave exercise.

What clothing and protective gear is required?

Students must wear clothing that covers all exposed skin surfaces. ie torso, arms, legs and feet. You must also wear an approved safety helmet and suitable footwear eg trainers/ soft sports shoes during training and testing. For other training options, common sense suggests a higher standard of protection is required.

Suitable footware.

Note: Please do not wear heavy or steel toe-capped work boots – they damage our motorcycles!

What payment options are available ?

All training is subject to a confirmation fee/ deposit of $50.00 prior to the training. This is not refundable.
Payment can be made via any of the following methods: Internet transfer, over the counter bank deposit, cheque or making an appointment to drop off the deposit.
Any remaining course fees are to be paid on the day prior to commencement of the training.

Note: Further details are available under the heading “Other Information” on this website.

How can I reduce the graduated driver licence system time - frames?

A Defensive Driving Course can reduce your Restricted Licence by up to 6 months if you are under 25 years (you must have completed at least 6 months on your Restricted Licence before attending the Course). If over 25 years, you must hold a Restricted Class 6 Licence to attend the Course which will give you a reduction of up to 3 months.

Note: Currently there are no motorcycle specific approved courses available anywhere in New Zealand.
